Ghostbusters

There are multiple rumors that can be found on the internet regarding a new Ghostbusters project. Most talk about Dan Aykroyd shopping for buyers on a potential third Ghostbusters installment.

Ghostbusters 3 does have a page on IMDb, and because everyone knows that if a project is listed on IMDb it is concrete, 100% going to happen right?? Ha, don’t get your hopes up. No actors or potential release dates are attached to this “project”.

“Have you, or any of your family ever seen a spook, specter, of ghost”? I love it! The original Ghostbusters is legendary, a classic on all levels. Who doesn’t love this movie? As a kid, I had a ton of action figures like Slimer, Venkman, Ecto 1, and even the Ghostbusters firehouse, plus toy proton packs and sliding traps. You name it, I had it. I own and proudly wear a Ghostbusters t-shirt to this day.

If you are drawing a blank, and can’t remember how great this movie is? Here is a little refresher clip.

Can’t really say that the second one turned out so great in 1989. Now, 23 years later, Aykroyd is pushing for a possible 3rd installment? One could understand why Bill Murray would be hesitant to sign on, which is one of the rumors I saw online. He does not want to partake in a sequel feeling that the window has closed. Could you imagine no Peter Venkman? I know that Egon is the man but come on! Would anyone actually go see a third Ghostbusters movie starring Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, but not Bill Murray? I love Ghostbusters and even I would have a hard time trying to swallow that pill.

So here is my suggestion/plea.

Have Aykroyd and Ramis involved with the writing process, but do not do a third movie. Write a script for a reboot that could potentially become a long-standing franchise. Keep the movie in the comedy/sci-fi genre, cast new actors as Peter Venkman, Egon Spangler, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore and get this show on the road! I could see Andrew Garfield as Egon in a heartbeat.

The special effects are light years better than when the original hit theaters in 1984. Come on, you know it would be ridiculously awesome! Get somebody to give Ray Parker Jr’s song a facelift, and make Ghostbusters a 3-D release. The producers of this movie would make a ton of loot just in 3-D ticket sales alone. Ghostbusters is a custom fit for 3-D!

If it happened, I would be one of the first fans standing in line on opening weekend.
