2012 MLB Predictions Revisited

I emailed Mr. Doug Nilsen about contributing to my MLB predictions blog back in March. He thought it was a cool idea and agreed to help, but only if at the end of the season I would look back over the picks and declare a “winner” between him, Riggleman and myself. I have come to expect nothing less from Doug (still trying to prove southerners are better than northerners haha) , so here we are for the 2012 MLB predictions winners ceremony.

In case you would like to read about why we picked who we picked:
American League Picks
National League Picks

I’m going to tally up points with this system using each of our picks. Keep in mind that this is my first time trying something like this so it should be interesting.

+5 points – Awarded for correctly predicting where a team finished in their division. (Yes, you get 5 for correctly putting Seattle in last if you predicted it)

+2 points – Awarded for correctly predicting a division winner and/or wild card winner.

+1 point – If you correctly picked a team to make the playoffs (Example – Picking the Rangers to win the wild card, but ended up winning the division and vice versa)

0 points – Added or subtracted for wrongly predicting a team by only 1 place in the division.

-2 points – Subtracted for wrongly predicting a team by two places in the division. (Example – Picking the Phillies to finish 1st, but they actually finished third. Applies also for predicting a team to finish 5th, but ends up finishing 3rd)

-3 points – Subtracted for wrongly predicting a team by three or more places in the division. (Example – Picking the Orioles to finish 5th, but actually finish 2nd in the AL East, and vice versa)

  1. I still say on beginning of the year talent I ranked the AL East correctly. The Red Sox didn’t try and then traded everyone away (I love it, but didn’t foresee the baseball gods being so kind), the Blue Jays near entire roster got hurt, and the Yanks and O’s overachieved. I’ll be back, Bennett.
