Finally! For two reasons…
1) Ravenous NFL fans get legitimate and meaning NFL talk for the first time since the Patriots won the Super Bowl. No doubt the draft is an exciting time for NFL. Everyone’s all in for 2015!
2) We’re closing in on NOT having to hear about any more mock drafts OR Chip Kelly’s man-crush/obsession with former Oregon and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Marcus Mariota. And Kelly’s potential to trade up in the draft tonight to land him.
After listening to some Philly sports talk over the last 2 days, it has become CRYSTAL clear that Chip wants Mariota. The Philly sports talk hosts want Mariota. The Philly fans want Mariota. There is gonna be a huge let down if for some reason the Philadelphia Eagles don’t get this guy on their team tonight.
To make it happen though, the Eagles will have to make a blockbuster draft trade.
I can’t believe the buzz that is around this guy. I’m of the camp that Jameis Winston is the clear-cut choice at QB for Tampa Bay with the 1st overall pick when the draft starts tonight. But I’ve even heard that Tampa might be on the Mariota bandwagon now.
I’ve heard theories about Mariota to Tampa and to Tennessee. Which to me are the most likely, since those two teams have the top 2 picks. With Tampa at one and Tennessee at two, even though Tennessee isn’t completely head-over-heels for Marcus Mariota.
Also, heard potential trades – Tennessee with San Diego, Philadelphia, and Cleveland. The Cleveland thing though apparently was just a false report that hit the wire yesterday. But the fact that there was even a report from Cleveland is curious from the interest aspect.
The rumor that makes me cringe the most though is Marcus Mariota to the Washington Redskins with the 5th overall pick. To me as a Redskins fan, if that happened, it would be a mitigated disaster for Washington.
If Washington ISN’T bolstering their offensive line – they NEED defensive help everywhere. Ryan Kerrigan can’t do everything by himself.
The best case scenario for the Redskins in my eyes would be Leonard Williams some how, some way making to past Tampa Bay, Tennessee, Jacksonville, and Oakland with the top 4 selections. The likely hood of that happening isn’t very good though. If the 2 teams at the top weren’t completely QB deprived, Williams would probably be the first pick in this draft class.
If Dante Fowler Jr. is the name announced at 5 overall to the Washington Redskins – that is a win in my book. Fowler is ranked as the 3rd overall prospect on Mel Kiper Jr’s big board behind only Leonard Williams and WR Amari Cooper from Alabama. Though I’ve never been a huge Mel Kiper Jr. guy, he and I have similar opinions on who the Redskins should take at 5.
I do have to give a shout out to NFL Network’s Mike Mayock. My boy Mayock has Williams getting to 5 and being selected by the Redskins.
The draft fireworks are set to go off at 8pm tonight.
