Dee Gordon Gets 80 Games

Dee-Gordon-MarlinsTo steal a line from the famed White Sox broadcaster Hawk Harrelson – “He gone.”

Dee Gordon has been suspended 80 games for use of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs). That news broke early this morning. But that’s not why I decided to post this. After hearing this news, I caught my self thinking about some of the players who have been caught and are still playing in Major League Baseball. Guys like Ryan Braun, Nelson Cruz, Melky Cabrera, and Jhonny Peralta.

Some players have a production drop off after getting busted. But others have played well, and even surpassed previous statistical production post-PED bust. Specifically, Nelson Cruz last season. Jhonny Peralta has also been a player who hasn’t been affected post PED bust.

My question: Can a player take PEDs to elevate their game and learn a skill from doing so? So much so that post getting busted, they could retain that skill to perform on a level that is akin to the level they were playing while using PEDs?

I honestly don’t even know where someone could possibly start to answer this question? But it is definitely thought provoking.

The floor is yours… I’d love to hear some takes on this.
